PIAGET CAMPUSES IN PORTUGAL
Higher School of Education
The Jean Piaget Higher School of Education / Almada (Escola Superior de Educação Jean Piaget de Almada) started its pedagogical activity in 1988, and currently offers undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate non-degree awarding courses, Higher Technical Professional Courses, and short-term training and refresher courses.
The School’s educational offer is mainly directed to teacher training for the national education system, and to the training of social and cultural intervention professionals.
The Jean Piaget School of Education / Almada provides its students with a range of pedagogical and scientific resources that are indispensable for their productive academic life, such as a teaching atelier; a workshop; a didactic materials collection; language, computer and Earth Sciences laboratories; and a “Pocket Theatre”. There are also other support structures, namely a bookshop, a photocopying shop, a canteen and a terraced coffee shop.
Higher School of Technology and Management
The Jean Piaget Higher School of Technology and Management (Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão Jean Piaget) is aimed at the production, transmission and dissemination of knowledge and culture that are related to the professional practice in the fields of technology and management.
The School’s training offer focuses on applied research, which potentiates the development of innovative and critical analysis capacities in its students, and gives priority to knowing how to do and to the acquisition of practical and specialized skills.
ISEIT - University Education
The Institute for Intercultural and Transdisciplinary Studies / Almada (ISEIT – Instituto de Estudos Interculturais e Transdisciplinares de Almada) was integrated in the Almada Campus in 1996. It extended the Piaget Institute’s intervention activity into the field of university higher education, and started to offer education and training in Arts, Food and Nutrition, Social and Human Sciences, Sports, Physical Education and Rehabilitation, Engineering, Technologies and Management.
The ISEIT has been constantly updating and increasing its pedagogical offer, and is currently able to provide undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate non-degree awarding courses that promote transdisciplinary research and train specialized professionals.
Finally, the ISEIT has all the necessary pedagogical, scientific and support resources for the proposed academic activities: audiovisual studios, laboratories, sports practice spaces, music study spaces, computer rooms, a bookstore, a library, an exhibition gallery, a study room, a photocopying room, a canteen and a coffee shop.
Higher School of Health
Similar to all the other Piaget Institute’s health schools, the Jean Piaget Higher School of Health / Silves (Escola Superior de Saúde Jean Piaget de Silves) is a polytechnic higher education establishment, founded under the Private and Cooperative Education Statutes. It organizes and teaches higher education courses in health and health technologies, such as Nursing, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy, provides specialization and refresher courses, and collaborates in training and research projects with other public and private entities.
Higher School of Education
The Jean Piaget Higher School of Education / Arcozelo (Escola Superior de Educação Jean Piaget de Arcozelo) started its educational and pedagogical activity in 1983, in the city of Arcozelo. At present it functions in the Vila Nova de Gaia Academic Campus, located in the Parish of Gulpilhares, and fully maintains its original vocation for polytechnic education in the field of Education Sciences.
The School currently offers undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate non-degree awarding courses, as well as specialization courses, Higher Professional Technical Courses, and a series of training actions and refresher courses.
Its educational offer comprises Education, Special Education, Pre-School Education and Care, Primary Education (1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education), Secondary Education, and Pedagogical Supervision and Evaluation.
Finally, the School’s master’s degrees award professional qualifications for several national teacher recruitment groups, and also give credits for career progression.
Higher School of Health
The Jean Piaget Higher School of Health / Vila Nova de Gaia (Escola Superior de Saúde Jean Piaget de Vila Nova de Gaia) has been functioning since 2003 at the Gulpilhares Campus of the Piaget Institute of Vila Nova de Gaia. It is a new building that has modern laboratory equipment and infrastructure, which support its scientific and pedagogical activity in the field of Health Technologies. Actually, the foundation of such a polytechnic higher education center allowed the Piaget Institute in Vila Nova de Gaia to broaden and diversify its training offer, and to start to cover the field of health as well.
The current undergraduate and postgraduate non-degree awarding courses, together with the Higher Technical Professional Courses that are run by the School, promote the acquisition of theoretical and practical skills, stimulate critical and innovative attitudes in professional activities, foster applied research, and provide its students with the tools for understanding and solving precise and real problems.
Higher School of Health
The Jean Piaget Higher School of Health / Viseu (Escola Superior de Saúde Jean Piaget de Viseu) began its teaching activities in 1997. It is part of the polytechnic component of the Piaget Institute’s higher education, and offers undergraduate degrees in Nursing and Physiotherapy, postgraduate non-degree awarding courses in Nursing, Physiotherapy, Gerontology, Geriatrics and Clinical Supervision, as well as Higher Technical Professional Courses in Gerontology, and Family and Community Service.
The courses of the Jean Piaget High School of Health / Viseu provide scientific, theoretical and practical knowledge that fosters critical and innovative attitudes in the professional practice of the hereby trained health professionals.
Finally, and in compliance with the polytechnic higher education status, applied research and understanding and solution of precise and real problems are part of its scientific agenda.
ISEIT - University Education
The Institute for Intercultural and Transdisciplinary Studies / Viseu (ISEIT – Instituto de Estudos Interculturais e Transdisciplinares de Viseu) was founded in 1996 with the mission of complementing the education/training offer already covered by the existing Higher Schools of Health and Education. Thus, its establishment made it possible to extend the Viseu University Campus’ education offer to the fields of Arts – especially Music, to Applied and Technological Sciences, and to Social Sciences and Humanities.
Currently, the ISEIT’s undergraduate, master’s and postgraduate non-degree awarding courses cover various fields of knowledge.
Finally, the entire educational offer of the Higher Institute for Intercultural and Transdisciplinary Studies / Viseu aims to foster transdisciplinary research, to contribute to education/training of specialized senior staff and, consequently, to help reinforce the business activity in the region.
