Diploma Requirements
A successfully concluded Undergraduate Degree in Basic Education requires the completion of a study program of 180 mandatory ECTS credits.
Licenciado degree holders in Basic Education have thus acquired the skills and competences to:
- Produce teaching materials based on the interpretation of the acquired knowledge;
- Recollect, select and interpret relevant data and further use them as the basis for decisions and action plans;
- Solve problems within legal and ethical boundaries;
- Share and communicate data, ideas and problems, and their solutions to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Career opportunities for Licenciado degree holders in Basic Education include:
- Follow-up and support for regular curriculum and curriculum enrichment activities;
- Follow-up and support for extracurricular activities;
- Assistance with school integration of children between 6 months and 12 years of age;

A licenciatura em Educação Básica da ESE Jean Piaget está diretamente relacionada com a missão, tradição e experiência formativa da instituição, a qual forma educadores e professores há mais de 25 anos.
Esta licenciatura está adequada ao previsto no Decreto-Lei n.º 79/2014, de 14 de maio, conforme aprovação pela A3ES e registo pela DGES.

Licenciado degree gives access to postgraduate studies in terms and under the conditions of the currently valid legislation, namely to the Second Study Cycles in Pre-Primary Education; Primary Education (1st Cycle) Teacher Training; Pre-Primary Education and Primary Education (1st Cycle) Teacher Training; 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Portuguese and History and Geography of Portugal in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education;1st Cycle of Basic Education and Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, and thus awards professional teaching qualifications for the referred areas and levels of education.

Assessment
The purpose of the student’s assessment is to evaluate his/her achievements in the acquisition and development of knowledge and competences defined in the Curricular Units syllabi.
Thus, assessment methods and instruments are adapted to the specific objectives, characteristics and contents of the corresponding Curricular Unit, and assessment is carried out in accordance with the currently valid Attendance and Assessment Regulations.
There are two main types of assessment: Continuous Assessment, which assesses the student’s work over an academic period (semester / quarter / year), e.g. his/her participation in the Curricular Unit activities, individual and/or group assignments, oral and written tests, etc., and Assessment by Exam, which assesses only the student’s performance at the exam he/she sits for.
